“In Dialogue with StreetMax21” brings together street photographers based in Barcelona and Catalunya alongside StreetMax21’s solo exhibition, “Cipher City”. The exhibition opens a conversation between different ways of observing people, public spaces and the rhythms of urban life. StreetMax21’s attention to the spatial relationships and isolation of figures within the city finds echoes and contrasts in the participating artists’ varied approaches. Their photographs reveal how shared surroundings can give rise to distinct experiences and interpretations. Together, the two exhibitions invite us to reconsider the familiar and discover what becomes visible when we look through another photographer’s eyes.

Taken in Tokyo in March 2024, these three photographs explore the relationship between movement, time and the urban environment. Using slow shutter speeds, I wanted to capture the city not as a fixed reality, but as something constantly changing. Figures appear and disappear, sometimes merging with the architecture and the surrounding crowds. The images become fragments of memory, somewhere between what we see and what we remember.
Rather than documenting a precise moment, they reflect the fleeting and subjective experience of being in a city.

These photographs were taken in Berlin in June 2024, on my first visit since I was twelve; in many ways, the first time I truly lived the city with open eyes. I set out simply to document the people I crossed paths with, and the city embraced me the way these subjects embrace the instant in which I photographed them. Yet a dark veil lay over everything: the foundations and the very air were heavy with history, in a city that can never allow itself to forget. These images speak of oblivion, of the passing of time, of a nostalgia for the present, a now steeped in both yesterday and tomorrow. Stories that never cross, yet at some point become the same one: someone who does not want to be forgotten.

Cecilia Díaz (b. 2000, Buenos Aires) is a photographer and creative director based in Barcelona who photographs what is about to slip away. Working mainly with analog film, she builds visual narratives around women, memory, intimacy and identity, drifting at times into fantasy, where people turn into creatures of their own myths. Her images move between melancholy and tenderness, with a grainy, cinematic texture meant to be felt rather than explained. After studying Advertising and Corporate Communications in Buenos Aires and living in Lisbon, she is now pursuing a Master's in Photography and Design at Elisava. Her first photobook, Our Midnight Rituals, a portrait of the women who have shaped her life since she left Buenos Aires, will be published by Four Eyes Editions (Paris) in December 2026 and is now available for pre-order.

New York was my home for seven years, a city that constantly inspired me through its energy, diversity, and everyday beauty. Living there shaped the way I see the world, drawing my attention to fleeting moments, vibrant colors, and often-overlooked details. Through street photography, I began documenting the places, people, and ordinary moments that became part of my everyday life. These photographs reflect both the lively nature of the city and the personal memories connected to it. Of All Places is a collection of fragments from a city that continues to feel like home.

“The weight of History or the presence of now”. History remains inscribed within cities — sometimes in the form of monuments, at other times in the walls that surround them. Against the weight of two titans of Cuban’s History (the revolutionaries José Martí and Che Guevara), a couple freezes time with a kiss in the solemnity of Plaza de la Revolución.
“Malecón, always Malecón”. The light on the Malecón does not fall so much as dissolve, turning the skyline into a memory of itself. Chrome-finned relics of another decade glide past the visitor, carrying their borrowed time along the asphalt facing a horizon that has promised so much but delivered it so slowly. In Malecón, dusk is not an ending but a long exhale that all cubans breath together.
Through the windshield, the city arrives as a slow procession of shapes, everyone waiting for the other. Coaxing one more day out of a car that should have rested decades ago, the driver waits with the patience of someone who has learned that time moves differently in Havana.

A street photographer, his work stems from a curiosity about cities and the people who inhabit them. Through his travels, he explores the diversity of urban life, seeking out fleeting moments, spontaneous gestures, and everyday scenes that reveal the extraordinary within the ordinary. Rather than merely documenting places, his photographs aim to capture the essence of spaces and the silent stories that unfold within them. His work invites us to pause, observe, and rediscover the world through the small moments that often go unnoticed.

These three photographs belong to an ongoing body of work about Barcelona seen twice. A polished floor, a pane of glass or a sheet of water on a station concourse turns the city into two versions of itself, superimposed in a single frame. Nothing is staged: the reflection is already there for anyone standing in the right place at the right moment, and it is gone a minute later. What interests me are the people who pass through these surfaces without noticing them, figures that become silhouettes, ghosts or doubles of themselves. In that brief moment when it is unclear which side of the glass we are on, an ordinary street becomes something else.

These three photographs represent the fateful moment, the leap into the unknown, and the frantic rush toward the goal. An event that lasts a mere instant usually blends into the fabric of everyday routine before disappearing entirely. Once captured by the lens, this fragment of time turns into the climax of excitement. The street becomes the stage where the ordinary borders on the epic, offering the viewer a moment of pure suspension and fleeting joy.

An Italian-born photographer currently based in Barcelona, he discovered his passion for photography in his early twenties. His visual research focuses on street photography, driven by a deep curiosity to observe people and daily life within the urban space. After a break away from the camera, he resumed shooting in the vibrant streets of Barcelona, where he now lives after a decade abroad. His practice centers on capturing spontaneous moments, motion, and the subtle stories hidden within the city landscape. Looking ahead, he aims to travel widely to enrich his portfolio with photographs from diverse social and cultural contexts.

These images reflect my love for street photography and how coming to Europe in 2022 opened my mind to new ways of seeing and capturing everyday life. This series brings together street photographs from my life in Atlanta and Europe, exploring the relationship between people and their surroundings. Viewed together, the images create a thread connecting different visual stories through my lens.

Their work is inspired by personal experiences, nature, and a queer perspective. They aim to capture close friends, nightlife, and intimate moments that come together to express their visual language. Documentation is an essential part of their practice in response to rapidly advancing technologies and the historical erasure of queer media. They approach photography through a cinematic lens, working primarily in digital formats.

Vincent Salasombath
What draws me to street photography is the freedom to explore without knowing what I will find. I enjoy wandering through the city, observing people and noticing things that catch my attention. Sometimes it’s a strange situation, a gesture, a colour or simply the way light falls on something. I try to find a composition within these moments, but I also enjoy the fact that I can never fully control what happens. That’s what I find most rewarding about photography: discovering something unexpected in an ordinary day.

Vincent Salasombath is a French photographer living in Barcelona. He has spent nearly twenty years working as a CGI artist, creating images for the advertising and luxury industries. Outside of his professional work, photography has become another way for him to explore his interest in images, but with much less control over what happens in front of the camera. He particularly enjoys wandering through the city, observing everyday life and discovering moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.
